Chicago is like a second home to all of us since our Aunt has lived there for our whole lives so we’ve been back and forth a lot. Not to mention that Claire lived there throughout college and we visited frequently. So when we (Joe and Kate) knew our professional business fraternity’s trip to Chicago was coming up we were both excited to revisit some of our favorite places. Luckily for us it just so happened to fall on the weekend after the Cubs won the World Series, so the city was absolutely packed.
We arrived on Thursday in the early evening and got situated before going to a family favorite, Quartino, for dinner. We’ve celebrated birthdays and graduations there and adore the atmosphere, staff, and food, so naturally it was the first stop on our list. We brought a group of our fraternity friends and shared an amazing dinner. If you haven’t been there, they recommend ordering several plates for the table to share which contributes to the wonderful atmosphere.
Friday we were out visiting businesses for most of the day but on lunch break we were able to walk through the Cubs parade crowds! People were pretty amused to see a group of people dressed business professional in the rowdy crowds. It was cool to witness the excitement that took over the city. We headed to Just Salad for lunch, a place neither of us had been before. We highly recommend checking it out!! They can make any of the salads into a wrap and it’s a great way to fill up with healthy foods in a pinch.
Friday night was our group’s last in the city so a bunch of us went to Dylan’s Candy Bar and walked around the city. While we weren’t able to be total tourists at the Bean (who knew the park closes at night?) the river at night has always been one of my favorite Chicago sights.
Saturday Joe headed back to East Lansing with our fraternity and I stayed in the city with a friend. After a long afternoon of shopping and spending way too much money, I called an early night and got some rest! The next day my friend and I went to Navy Pier for the SOFA exhibit. While I could only stay for an hour, the pieces were amazing, creative, and dramatic. It was truly worth it to stay in the city.
And with that it was back to East Lansing for me too! Until next time Chicago.
