New York Fall November 2016

Outfit details at bottom

I visited New York for the first time in January 2016 and have been back twice since then. It’s been love at first sight for me with New York, and every time I go back I discover more to love about it. This time was no different. Lucky for me, my boyfriend goes to school at West Point which is only about an hour out of the city, so visiting him is a great excuse to head to New York.

I flew into LaGuardia on Thursday night and headed straight to the hotel after meeting up with David. We weren’t really planning on doing anything which was probably good because the second I laid down on the bed I was asleep. We both woke up around 1 am surprised that we’d been sleeping and decided to turn off Mean Girls and call it a night.

Friday we hit the ground running and went out to explore the city. We swung by Trump Tower but since Trump was working in the building the whole block was shut down with NYPD at either end. So we continued on to Central Park. The park is beautiful year round and fall is no exception. Because it’s November some trees were bare but near Bow Bridge there were colors galore. It was beautiful weather and a perfect day to walk around the park and people watch. Later we headed to Chipotle and then back to the hotel to enjoy some football (what I have to endure since David watches E! with me).

I chose to wear my favorite Dolce Vita wedges with my Rag and Bone jeans and a black cashmere sweater. It’s warm for November but still pretty chilly, and since we were outside most of the day I threw my velvet Vince jacket over it. Between the cashmere, coat, and Starbucks, I was able to keep warm for our walk through the city and Central Park.

On Saturday we got a late start and headed out to meet a friend in East Village. It was the perfect opportunity to stop by Tompkins Square Park, which David has tried to get to every time we visit because of the Mumford and Sons song. After we wandered around for a while, slowly making our way to West Village before finding a Chinese and Thai food place for dinner, where we ordered way too much food. Later we went to the movies to see Arrival, which we both thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. Because our hotel was in the financial district, we went back through Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty at night. It was so beautiful, and always incredible to see such a symbol of our nation.

Though it was still chilly out, I braved the wind in my J. Crew jean dress and Free People fuzzy sweater. Thanks to my warm socks and Hunter boots I was able to stay relatively warm throughout the day. I added a belt to the dress because of the odd way the sweater cut off but I wouldn’t do the same again. When I eventually took the belt off it ended up looking better in my opinion.

Sunday was our last day there so we grabbed Starbucks and bagels and headed to one of our favorite spots overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge. It was sunny and beautiful out again so we enjoyed the time we had eating the cream cheese overloaded bagels and feeding the birds crumbs. After we finished we decided to head to the Brooklyn Bridge to walk it for the first time. It took a while longer to walk out to where the path begins but it was worth it for the view from the bridge.

For our last day I wore my Rag and Bone jeans and Hunter boots with a loose navy Zara top that translated to the plane well. It was the perfect balance of warmth and comfort without looking sloppy while still in the city.

After that it was back to LaGuardia and watching The Royals on my flight back to the midwest! Until next time New York.
