Recently all three of us spent the day in Midtown with family. Claire has an apartment in the area with fantastic shops right around the corner, including Shinola. It was a super fun day full of interesting and unique finds!
We began our trip at the Shinola Midtown store, a large and beautiful showroom and workplace. The store was absolutely packed due to it being two days after christmas, but we still managed to see everything. The store is so aesthetically pleasing, with beautiful warm tones and golden Christmas trees. Their merchandise is incredible, and the presentation only makes it more enjoyable.
Next we headed across the street to a store called Nest. Nest has so many fun random items, and the store is beautifully decorated. There are a lot of unique items that make fantastic gifts. The entire space is whimsical and fun and there’s always something new to look at.
Right next door is City Bird, a store similar to Nest but very different in a way you only realize if you go in one right after the other. City Bird has a whole wall full of beautiful stationary and cards and a fun section with toys and accessories for kids. Our favorite part are the earrings on the counter featuring faces of famous and notable people. Some of these include Abraham Lincoln, Snoop Dogg, and our personal favorite: Tobias Bluthe from Arrested Development in his blue face paint.
We briefly stopped by Third Man Records (next to Shinola, across from City Bird and Nest) before heading to dinner. The vibe in the store is very cool, and everything about the place feels like they just hosted a rock concert.
After exploring Midtown, we headed to Green Dot for dinner. Green Dot is amazing if you’re on a budget and have some time to wait. Usually busy (especially if there’s a Wings game), it’s well worth waiting on the heated patio while enjoying drinks. Their sliders are a couple dollars each and so delicious it was hard to get pictures before they were gone!
Midtown is an awesome place to shop around if you’re looking for a fun afternoon. There are also several great restaurants in the area other than Green Dot that are the perfect thing to alleviate shopping hunger. If you’re in the area, Midtown is always a good idea.
