Summer is finally officially here!! Which makes it great timing to post my summer reading list (self imposed of course). I’ve already started because I’ve been out of school since May but I want hold myself accountable for the rest of the list!
Summer is basically the only time of year where I can semi-efficiently read some books that I want to. During the school year it’s mostly required reading (textbooks, ew) and maybe sneaking in some recreational reads over holiday break or weekend trips. So when summer comes, I tend to go a little overboard and choose way too many books to try to read. When I was younger and spent the summers not working, I would literally read a book a day. So in keeping with that tradition, here are the books I want to read this summer (and some I have already, since it’s July):
- #GirlBoss: Sophia Amoruso
- I’ve already finished this one and I thought it was a very interesting look into the mind of entrepreneur and lady boss Sophia Amoruso. It’s a quick read, empowering, and written with fun narration.
- Cat’s Cradle: Kurt Vonnegut
- This was my second read of the summer (not counting myrequired reading for my trip to China) and I enjoyed it. I sped through the outlandish plot, drawn in by the narration and verbiage. It’s an incredibly well written book and a quick read if you’re as drawn in as I was.
- Big Magic: Elizabeth Gilbert
- I read Eat, Pray, Love a couple of summers ago and absolutely loved it. Elizabeth Gilbert has an amazing story and I can’t wait to read more of her work.
- Rebecca: Daphne de Maurier
- I’m in the middle of this now and I can’t put it down. It’s a lot like popular high school required reading Jane Eyre, and a similar set up to Gone with the Wind. I just reached a twist and I have a feeling there will be more surprises…
- Slaughterhouse 5: Kurt Vonnegut
- A classic that I have yet to read, but I loved the style of Cat’s Cradle so much I have no doubt I’ll love it!
- The Woman in Cabin 10: Ruth Ware
- I loved In a Dark, Dark Wood and this is one of my favorite kind of books! I have no doubt I’ll finish it in a day from not being able to put it down.
- Rare Objects: Kathleen Tessaro
- I got this gem for my birthday this year and it sounds amazing! I want to take this one to the beach and read in the sun all day.
