Back to College: Where to Shop

‘Tis the season for back to school! It seems to come faster every single year, especially this year since I have no school to return to. This sounds morose, but post-grad life is pretty great too. 🙂 Plus I got to relive all the pre-move-in madness with my brother, who will be a junior at MSU.

If you’re an incoming freshman or a senior returning to an already-furnished house, here’s a list of my favorite places to pick up all the essentials, and some fun things too.

Target:

Target is a great place for a mass haul; batteries, command hooks, favorite protein bars, and cute furniture and home goods. It’s a one stop shop! Don’t forget the hangars, bedsheets, and broom, but definitely pick up some of their adorable decor items. Bright colors to personalize a freshman dorm, an adorable “Bar” sign for a bar cart in your senior year house.

T.J.Maxx:

All the “necessities” but with glam and gorgeous execution. Daily planner? Check. Shaggy rug and cute baskets to stow odds and ends? Check. Even a towel that doubles as a cover-up (hello, community bathrooms). And don’t forget the trendy message board to write messages to your roomie and a throw pillow that is a constant reminder that no matter how stressful it gets, in college there are no bad days. Plus you can’t beat a T.J. Maxx price tag, everything is half the price it would be anywhere else!

Ikea:

Ikea is all around great for the many basics needed for college. Looking through the showrooms for inspiration and choosing a theme for bedding and decor is so much fun, and you can quickly grab everything from pots and pans to a bath mat while you’re at it. Everything is inexpensive and while it might not last more than a few years, that’s the most you’ll need it in college anyway!

Where are your favorite places to dorm and college shop?
