‘Tis the season, not only for festive holiday themed things but also to stay indoors when the weather gets truly terrible, which it has and it no doubt will continue to do. Nothing is more festive that watching (and rewatching) classic holiday movies under a blanket rather than doing anything else. Here’s a list of the classics and new movies that I have on my list this year, and where to find them.
- Elf – $3.99 to rent on Amazon
- I never watched this as a kid but now it’s a classic, mostly because everybody insists on watching it countless times. I will admit, Will Ferrell is pretty entertaining as a giant man-elf.
- Polar Express – $3.99 to rent on Amazon
- A childhood classic, I grew up reading the book at Christmas time. I think the movie kept the spirit of the book alive which makes it so much fun to watch.
- Love Actually – Netflix
- How could I not include this? So many story lines, so little time. It’s a classic feel-good holiday rom com done beautifully with an impressive cast. There’s nothing better than rewatching this one every year.
- A Christmas Prince – Netflix
- I still haven’t seen this one but the way it took over social media last year, my curiosity is engaged. I will be watching this fluff piece this year with wine and probably very much enjoying it.
- Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – Amazon Prime
- Another childhood classic, this vintage cartoon is so much fun to watch. It’s a story everybody knows but it never gets old this time of year. Great to have on in the background since nobody is going to forget this storyline.
- Charlie Brown Christmas – $9.99 to buy on Amazon
- We used to watch all the Charlie Brown specials on TV during the holidays and while that tradition may have disappeared, it’s still so much fun to watch Charlie Brown around the holidays.
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – $3.99 to rent on Amazon
- Not a Christmas movie, but I don’t care. Harry Potter is a holiday vibe because Harry Potter is an everything vibe. Also these books and movie embody everything the holidays are about; family, fun, and magic.
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) – Full film here
- I will never forget watching this as a kid and being jealous of the roast beast feast at the end. Still good to watch just to see how cute the dog looks in antlers.
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) – Netflix
- Same deal as above but modernized! Such a fun movie, and I have very fond memories of barfing in the movie theater when my Grandma took me to see it as a kid. For that reason and also the fact that it’s just good, I’ll never forget this one!
