One of my favorite things about my office are the holidays – we get generous amounts of time off including lots of holiday time. This past holiday was no exception, and with the Friday before Labor Day off I seized the opportunity to go to the Met for the first time and see the Camp exhibit. It’s closing this coming weekend so the timing was perfect. Each of the pieces was gorgeous and interesting to look at, being varying levels of ridiculous in the best way. Coupled with quotes on camp and following a whole history on the origins of camp, the final room with two storied displays of high fashion was the grand finale. The display itself was art, and I could’ve looked at each look for hours if there weren’t so much more to explore.
I spent the day wandering the polished halls of the museum, in awe of everything I saw and learned. It was better than I imagined since I had no idea what I would find within the walls of the museum. There was plenty of my favorite, Monet, and other similar European painters. I zipped through the Rock and Roll exhibit as well and it seemed almost fake looking at Prince’s clothes and the Beatle’s drum set. Several guitars were displayed as well including Bruce Springsteen’s as pictured on the Born to Run album. I walked out after in somewhat of a daze and spent some time relaxing in Central Park before dinner.
Below are some highlights and favorites from the day. If you’re in the city and are interested in fashion or art, I highly suggest you get to the exhibit before it closes on September 8th. I know I’ll be continuously inspired by the art I saw for quite some time. It’s easy to forget how much culture and art is at my disposal in the city here but taking advantage of it was fulfilling in so many ways. I’m already looking forward to the next museum excursion.
