2020 Outlook

Although we’re halfway through the first month of 2020, I’m still working on developing plans and goals for the new year. I haven’t been big on resolutions in recent years, preferring to focus on small, actionable items if anything (flossing my teeth daily was my success about two years ago, haven’t missed a day since). Since the new year isn’t truly the beginning of a new year in my life (that would be my birthday), I don’t feel the urge to completely overhaul my life. That being said, I’ve always loved a fresh start and an excuse to plan and set goals and 2020 seems like a big chance to do that.

This year I’m excited to keep refining the habits I’ve been working to implement in my daily life, from working out to survive sedentary desk life, to taking trips and carving out budget and time for travel. 2019 and the years prior had plenty of opportunity to strive for these goals and I want to recognize the progress made while making changes that will help future “improvements.” Above all else, I want to stay aware of the fact that life is short, appreciate the people I love and my time with them. I am constantly in awe of how lucky I am to be surrounded by the people I have in my life from family and friends, and beyond that the opportunities I have been afforded.

My 2020 outlook is to stay optimistic and try not to lose sight of that feeling of overwhelming luck and gratefulness for the things I have been given. I truly believe that the power of the mind guides our lives and just holding a belief such as this can make all the difference. Plus, it’s true in my case, and in most of ours. There is so much struggle in the world and if you’re someone who has a home and food, schooling or a job, loved ones and something to look forward to, how lucky we are to be in that position. Keeping this perspective is the trick, and one I want to work on this year. What are your goals for the fresh year?
